Alexander Harrison died at his home near Walnut Grove, November 18 at 5 o’clock in the afternoon. Funeral services were conducted at Walnut Grove church by Rev. Mr Charles and Rev Mr Parker. Burial was in Walnut Grove cemetery. He had been an invalid for several months but his illness wasn’t serious until a short while before his death.
His death has brought sadness to each and every home in the community, But he has gone to that bright home prepared for all Christian fathers, where they will never grow old, in the land of everlasting morning which we call heaven. Though he was 89 years of age, he was still of a bright and cheerful disposition, scattering sunshine wherever he went, and was ever ready to comfort the sorrowing and lend a helping hand to those in need.
Mr Harris (sic) (known as Uncle Elic) was a descendant of early American families whose members had served with distinction in both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. As a husband, as a father, and as a neighbor, his life was a benediction to all who came in contact with him.
Mr Harrison was first married to Miss Laura Lanier. To this union were born seven children, of which six are still living: Mrs Jasper Kelly of White House, Mrs Demps Lane of Orlinda, Mrs Bedford Dycus of Gallatin, Mrs Luther Wilkinson of Portland, Jim and Ollie Harrison of Orlander (sic) Florida.
After the death of his first wife, he was married to Miss Carrie Kelly. To this union were born seven children. Six are living, as follows: Mrs Clarence Short and Ray Harrison of Gallatin, Lonnie Harrison of Old Hickory, Guy, Brownie and Joe Harrison of near White House.
The flower girls were his grandchildren and a daughter-in-law. His pallbearers were his five youngest sons and Lersie Lane, a grandson. His body was laid to rest beneath a mound of beautiful flowers, God’s silent messages of cheer, also an attestation of many friends who came to him for assistance and comfort.
